DID YOU KNOW?
Drinking too much alcohol increases people’s risk of injuries, violence, drowning, liver disease, and some types of cancer. This April, during Alcohol Awareness Month, Abundant Life Church International’s Medical Ministry encourages you to educate yourself and your loved ones about the dangers of drinking too much.

What the Bible says about alcohol?
When this question is asked or when alcohol is discussed with believers and nonbelievers alike, John 2:1-11 is often quoted. We all know that Jesus turned water into wine. Scripture does not forbid Christians from drinking alcohol in general. Alcohol is mentioned in the Bible usually as beer and wine. Just like money is not the root of all evil, but our obsession for it , the love of money, ie our abuse of it; alcohol is not evil in itself. Alcohol is also not sinful alone, however , alcohol abuse is a sin. What God commands us Christians regarding alcohol is for us to avoid drunkenness or our addiction to alcohol.

We all have learned in school that small quantities of alcohol is not destructive to our bodies, and many doctors even advocate for drinking red wine in moderation for heart health benefits, ie the French Paradox. However, the church historically preaches for Christians to stay away from alcohol and avoid the temptation because it is easy to fall into alcoholism [ie a gateway to sin].

Here are some biblical scriptures to read more on this subject:
• Ephesians 5:18
• Proverbs 20:1 ;26;10
• Jeremiah 51:6
• Proverbs 31:4
• Leviticus 10:9
• Numbers 6:3
• Deuteronomy 29:6
• Isaiah 5:11
• Ecclesiastes 9:7
